Cultivation
Also known as: botrytis, grey mold
A mold (Botrytis) that rots cannabis buds from the inside out, thriving in humid, poorly ventilated conditions.
Bud rot, caused by the fungus Botrytis cinerea, attacks dense flowers from the inside, turning the core brown and mushy before the outside shows damage. It thrives in cool, humid, stagnant conditions — making it the top threat for outdoor growers in humid regions like coastal BC and the Atlantic provinces during the damp autumn. Prevention means airflow, controlled humidity, and choosing airy, mold-resistant genetics. Infected buds must be removed immediately.
