Mother Plant

Also known as: mom

A female plant kept in permanent veg to supply clones, preserving a chosen phenotype indefinitely.

A mother plant is a healthy female kept permanently in the vegetative stage (under 18+ hours of light) so it never flowers, allowing the grower to take cuttings (clones) from it repeatedly. Maintaining a mother preserves a prized phenotype indefinitely and provides a steady supply of genetically identical plants. Only photoperiod plants can serve as mothers, since autoflowers flower with age regardless of light.
