Decarboxylation

Also known as: decarb

Heating cannabis to convert non-intoxicating THCA into active THC — required for edibles and tinctures.

Decarboxylation ('decarbing') is the process of heating cannabis to convert its acidic cannabinoids (like THCA) into their active forms (like THC). Raw cannabis isn't intoxicating because the cannabinoids are in acid form; smoking or vaping decarbs instantly via heat. For edibles and tinctures, you must decarb first — typically baking ground flower around 110–120°C for 30–45 minutes — or the product won't produce a noticeable effect.
